Billing Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the department of Perioperative services; the Perioperative Billing Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all surgical procedures performed have been critically reviewed for accurate posting appropriately at the end of the procedure. The timely review of all procedures is critical to the organization in an effort to ensure accurate charge capture and release of all encounters to post to patient billing. The attention to detail is critical to the revenue of the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collect and review all associated paperwork/clinical documentation; as it relates to the close of each surgical procedure.
Communicate effectively with clinical stakeholders to ensure there is clarity regarding the procedures performed and all associated documentation is accurate in the EHR.
Ensure all of the implants are logged in the Medical record with appropriate Lot, and Serial number in accordance with AORN and TJC standards.
Identify all cases that have supplies and/or equipment that is not searchable within the electronic health system, and coordinate with the appropriate individuals to build the items in the system.
Assist with reporting and tracking of case data as appropriate to assist department leadership in tracking case cost information.
Work collaboratively with the Billing Specialist for anesthesia to post Anesthesia charge information and document accurately.
Acts as a backup for other departments within the Periop division for billing when necessary.
Accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all clinic-related and patient-related data and information.
Report all variances to the Manger/Director of the department after appropriately researching the issue
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Ability to think critically and work independently
Interpersonal and problem solving skills necessary to interact with physicians, coworkers, clinical staff
Demonstrates ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of personnel
Thorough understanding of operative procedures and clinical service lines
Proficient in computers with an understanding of Electronic Health Records
Proficiency in Meditech preferred
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:
Education: Associates Degree/2 years of college required Bachelors Preferred
Experience: Billing experienced in a clinical required. Minimum of 3-5 years hospital experience in a clinical or business capacity
Software/Hardware: Meditech, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio) Clinical informatics preferred



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
