Director Perioperative Service

Definition of the position:
Administers the managerial functions of setting objectives, strategic planning, staffing and directing activities of assigned departments. Assigned divisions include: Surgical Services Administration, Operating Room, Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, Pre-Admission Testing, CPD and Same Day Surgery. The Director is responsible for Nursing, Finance and Administrative operations of all departments.
Supervises the following staff by job category:
Director of CPD and Materials Processing
Patient Care Manager- OR
Patient Care Manager- Ambulatory Surgery/PACU/PAT
Other Administrative staff in Admin. Dept (Systems Analyst, etc.)
Collaborates with the following staff by job category:
Chairs of Surgery, Orthopedics, and OB/GYN and Chiefs of each division
Medical Staff
Administrative Staff
Nursing Staff
Technical Staff
Has the authority and the responsibility for selecting, training, orienting and assigning department staff (either directly or through Departmental Managers).
Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for actions.
Authorized to provide and maintain effective communications with department managers, medical staff and all levels of supervision and staff.
Authorized to reorganize departmental functions and processes (in conjunction with the directors and managers) in order to meet agreed upon objectives.
Authorized to determine the allocation of the various departments annual operating budget.

Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers,
and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."
Monitors and analyzes trends involving caseload, staff resources, and changes in patient population and recommends budgets for areas of assigned responsibility.
Prepares, monitors and is accountable for labor and non-labor budgets for all areas under supervision.
Based on analysis, develops variance reports, correction action plans and data needed to project future budgetary needs.
Develops business plans for new clinical programs.
In collaboration with department directors, designs and supports Nursing Division goals and objectives which reflect the philosophy and mission of the Medical Center.
Serves on department and Medical Center committees, task forces and work groups on a voluntary and appointed basis through active participation and follow through on project work.
Participates in JCAHO and regulatory agencies accreditation processes.
Develops and operationalizes a strategic plan with ongoing evaluation, based on changes in the operative environment and trends in patient care.
Collaboratively develops, maintains and evaluates standards of practice.
Provides leadership to clinical staff regarding resource allocation, clinical decision making, and conflict management.
Acts as a consultant to other disciplines relative to patient care management.
Collaborates effectively with other department managers, administrative personnel and physicians in accordance with the Medical Center's mission and values.
Demonstrates an overall accountability to recruit, interview, select and evaluate nursing personnel.
Promotes a supportive working environment within the Medical Center.
Accountable in collaboration with the Nurse Educator, for maintaining a level of staff competency and performance based on the standards and outcomes of the patients.
Utilizes procedures as defined by the Nursing Division, Human Resources, and related departments to provide counseling, disciplinary action and/or termination.
Manages the environment to support staff professional growth.
Creates a climate to assist staff in identifying individual strengths and areas of learning.
Collaborates with all disciplines in planning, operationalizing and evaluating programs related to patient care.
Designs, implements and evaluates systems to maintain and improve care, patient/family satisfaction, cost effectiveness, and staff satisfaction.
Maintains departmental policies related to scheduling, block time and booking practices, to foster equitable access to and most effective use of operating room resources, and to accurately reflect the daily plan/schedule/log.
Manages and improves perioperative services through monitoring of key metrics of patient care and operational flow, as well as financial performance.
Collaborates with financial and information services staff to create reports reflecting the trends in cost, volume and character of surgical activity.
Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:
Reports perioperative performance metrics, volume and financial to VP Operations on a monthly basis (minimum) or as needed to drive operational improvement.
Reports on financial performance and variance analysis monthly to VP Operations and Finance department.
Accountable for the patient care and flow throughout the Perioperative units (PAT through recovery).
Accountable for achievement of budgetary and other operational performance metrics as agreed upon with VP Operations.
Accountable to customers of the OR for delivering expected performance.
Minimum Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing, Allied Health or Business - with experience; Masters degree preferred
Minimum Experience: More than 5 years management in a hospital perioperative or related environment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
